Wordless News 8.28.15

It's Friday! yay!

So, I took a break from Wordless News this morning to prepare for some events I have coming up in the next few weeks. Instead of drawing, I spent several hours scribbling down words and talking to myself in the mirror. Hopefully, this exercise in public speaking will pay off. If you'd like to attend either of the conferences in the coming weeks you'll find all the details below. Wordless News will happily return bright and early on Monday morning!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Vacation

Instead of my normal routine of coffee and news consumption yesterday, I hopped on a plane and am now on vacation until Wednesday, July 15th! I am so thankful to have a short break from work to relax and recharge, but I do I wish I had the chance to create an image for the removal of the Confederate flag. The past few weeks have been emotional and progressive for my hometown of Columbia and for my state. I feel I need to acknowledge my disappointment in not being able to create something for today - it isn't out of apathy, it is simply the timing of the event.

I am thankful, as always, for each of you who follows along and I look forward to getting back to creating Wordless News next week.

Cheers,
Maria

A Prickly Hiatus

Any day that I fail to create and share Wordless News, I feel incredibly frustrated and disappointed in myself.

But for the rest of today and tomorrow, I am giving myself a break. I'm going to try and ignore all feelings of frustration and lack of productivity.

Even though I'm only five feet tall and have never weighed enough to give blood, I'm strong. I run, I do yoga, I am not afraid of a cut or a bruise, but I am terrified of the gnawing back pain I felt a few years ago and that pain has returned. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, I suffer from Kidney stones. And for the past two weeks (almost) I've been charging ahead, trying to win the battle with the latest prickly monster. Alas, this stone is taking me down. It is winning and I need to spend the next day or two trying to beat it.

I understand that this post is probably a little too much information but it didn't seem right to not give an honest and truthful reason for being MIA.

Thanks for understanding. Wordless News will return on Monday, because by then the stone will definitely be gone. Until then, may you all be peaceful, happy and stone-free!

Hi Friends,

It's a holiday weekend! Hooray!

Due to a mountain of deadlines, I'll be working on Monday, so I decided to give myself this morning off from Wordless News. I just needed a little break to rest and rejuvenate. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, Wordless News will return on Monday!

Cheers,
Maria

Mini Break

Today I'm on the road to visit Coastal Carolina University as an outside evaluator for their art students. I'm excited to see some great work and catch up with my very talented friend, Jim Arendt who works at the university.

After I travel to the coast, I'm off in the opposite direction to visit the upstate. I'm taking a short trip to Greenville to pick up my work at the SCGSAH Gallery.  From there, I'm going a little further north for a short mountain weekend. I'm disconnecting from the computer screen for the next few days to recharge and focus. I'm looking forward to some time with my sketchbook, hiking with friends and some peaceful time with mother nature.

Wordless News will return on Monday, May 4th. Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,
Maria
